Feature distance just right for David Smith at Buena Vista Raceway’s Suter Memorial

first_imgALTA, Iowa (July 2) – From the vantage point of winner David Smith, the 25-lap distance for Buena Vista Raceway’s Kyle Suter Memorial was just right.Smith led the last 24 circuits and earned $1,000 for his Wednesday night IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory at Alta.“I ran the very top of the track. There was just enough momentum on the top, which was starting to go away,” said Smith, who’d lined up behind pole starter Chris Ullrich and taken the lead with a pass inside. “I didn’t want any more laps.” Smith’s younger brother Devin, a contender for national and Arnold Motor Supply Northern Region rookie of the year honors, used lower lines in advancing 13 spots to second. “Any time you see us finish 1-2, it’s good. It doesn’t get any better than that. It’s the best when everybody runs good,” Smith said. “The $1,000 was a bonus.”Brian Blessington passed nine cars and finished third. Derek Green challenged Smith several times for the lead before ending in fourth and Allan Schmidt was fifth. Feature results – 1. David Smith; 2. Devin Smith; 3. Brian Blessington; 4. Derek Green; 5. Creative Inspiration: The History of the Title Sequence

first_imgClassic motion graphic design is displayed in The History of the Title Sequence. In a world of After Effects and Cinema 4D it’s easy to forget how much effort and creativity it took to create motion graphics in a non-digital environment. In his graduate project, motion graphics artist Jurjen Versteeg takes us on a fictitious journey through The History of the Title Sequence and creatively encapsulates the essence of some of the most popular motion graphic designers of the 20th century. The video was created in 2011, but we missed it upon it’s release and thought it too good not share. It should be noted that the entire film was shot over the course of 1 day. Jarjen used a small camera crane to shoot over his shoulder so his hands could be in the shot. The film is a great example of what can be achieved if you have a great idea and put in the necessary pre-production. The following video shows a behind the scenes look at the making of the short film. What do you think of The History of the Title Sequence? Is there anything you would have done differently? Gov’t Adds $1 Billion to Budget for Early Childhood and Special Education

first_imgMinister of Education, Rev. the Hon. Ronald Thwaites, said that an additional $1billion has been added to the upcoming budget for special and early childhood education.“We are adding it so that our little children can get the best…we wish we could do more,” the Minister stated. He was speaking at the official opening of the Accompong Basic School in St. Elizabeth on Wednesday, March 20. Rev. Thwaites said the Government is making early childhood education a priority and stressed the need for increased partnerships at this level.“We need all the partnerships that we can get, and we welcome them. Basic education is where we have to start as we must do it right the first time. We could do so much more if we only understand that we must not leave basic education alone, we must give it the priority that it needs,” he stated. He urged the parents to begin now to save for their children’s secondary and tertiary education through a credit union or other financial institution.Meanwhile, the Minister said that aspects of the maroon culture and history will be included in the civics curriculum during the next school year.He said that while the programme started with the Rt. Excellent Marcus Garvey, “we will be following on with all of the heroes and drawing lessons from them.”The Accompong Basic School was built by Food For the Poor as part of its initiative to construct 50 early childhood institutions across the island to mark Jamaica’s 50th year of Independence. It boasts three spacious classrooms, to comfortably accommodate up to 100 students, a sick bay, teachers’ office, and is equipped with child-friendly furniture.By Garfield Angus, JIS Reporterlast_img read more
