CARA HOUSE IN SEARCH FOR NEW PREMISES AS SERVICE ‘OVERWHELMED’

first_imgCara House has launched its ‘One in a Million’ appeal and is asking the Letterkenny Community for its support in obtaining better premises.There will be a public meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, September at 7pm in The Station House Hotel.The current premises are completely overwhelmed by the number of activities on offer and the number of adults and children using the centre, the organisation said in a statement. Cara House runs activities to suit people from the cradle to the grave! There are Crèche and Afterschool clubs for children – A Coderdojo Club and Group Grinds for teenagers – A range of activities for adults suit those with time on their hands in the daytime, especially those who want to be part of an Active Age Group as well as a full range of services from a Café to Drop in room and a Helping Hands Service.Susan McCauley, co-ordinator of Cara House, said: “We have been looking for new premises for two years without any luck. Everywhere was too expensive, not fitted out or unsuitable.“As a result we feel we would be better to get a purpose built facility. Everybody says, “Oh that would cost a million!” so we are asking people to be one in a million and give one in a million!’There are European and Government Grants that Cara House is hoping to access but there are many things that individuals in the Letterkenny community can do to support Cara House, said Susan. The first fundraising activity will be on 6th October with a guest tea in Bonagee Hall. Cara House is also collecting newspapers and asking people who have skills to knit or make items to do so in support of their Christmas sale.Over the past ten years so many people have availed of courses in Cara House and they or their family are asked to remember the benefits they received and support the initiative.
