first_imgMaxine StewartHelen Maxine Stewart was born March 18, 1924 in Caldwell to John Alva and Nettie White. She  died on Sept. 9 at the Golden Living Center in Wellington.Stewart attended country schools and graduated from Deer Creek High School, Deer Creek, Okla. She attended college in Alva, Okla. and became an emergency war time country school teacher.On Dec. 24, 1944, she was united in marriage with Carl Stewart in Caldwell. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy Lea and Joyce Ann.Carl and Maxine enjoyed square dancing, camping and taking family vacations.She was active in the Central Christian Church in Caldwell, where she taught Sunday School and held offices in CWF and Guild. She was also active in Drury Star EHU, where she was secretary for many years.Maxine loved gardening and flowers. She once served as superintendent of the floral department for the Sumner County Fair Association. She also worked for Ernestine’s Flowers in Caldwell for many years.She was also employed at the Red Barn and Harvest Home in Caldwell.Carl and Maxine lived on a farm east of Caldwell for 60 years, where Carl was a farmer. In later years, they enjoyed having their granddaughters spend time on the farm.In 2004, Carl and Maxine moved to Caldwell, where she remained until moving to the Golden Living Center.She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Countryman, and husband, Tom, of Drury, Kan.; and Joyce Marcrum, and husband, Marc, of Caldwell, Kan.; three granddaughters, Amber Schmitz, and husband, Jerry, of Wellington, Kan.; Heather Koelsch, and husband, Tom, of Seattle, Wash.; and Jennifer Marcrum, and fiance, Trey Watson, of Ark City, Kan.; three great grandchildren, Noah, Nora and Simon; three siblings, Phyllis Cadek, of Ponca City, Okla.; and Richard White and Glen White, both of Caldwell, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; infant son, Max Duane; and a sister, Genevie Wooderson.Service will held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at the Central Christian Church in Caldwell with Dr. Dan Price officiating.   Interment will be held at the Caldwell Cemetery.Memorials may be made in memory of Maxine to the Central Christian Church, Rivercross Hospice, or the Alzheimer’s Association.To share a memory or leave a condolence please visit www.schaeffermortuary.infoArrangements by Schaeffer Mortuary, 6 N.
