Incepted in 2016, ME Cup, an annual event of Mitsubishi Electric India, has emerged as the biggest National-level Automation Competition in India that challenges many collegiate engineering teams to design, build and present factory-automated, innovative working models.The journey of 4 th Mitsubishi Electric Cup kick-started in July 2018, witnessing several project submissions and teams working on their innovative project models. All the participating teams were backed by Mitsubishi Electric India’s technical support team and were provided with the essential Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation products such as Programable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interface (HMIs), Servo Motors, Variable Frequency Drives etc., to name a few.The two-day competition saw some of the best innovative project displays built by the participating teams focusing on the theme ‘Digital Industry through Smart Imagination’. These models were based on Smart Solutions for purposes like building automations, industrial manufacturing processes, among others.Team ”SPARK ” from D.K.T.E. Society’s Textile & Engineering Institute , ICHALKARANJI became the winners of the 4 th Mitsubishi Electric Cup, receiving Rs. 1,00,000 and Winner Trophy; “CON-SOL- E-3.0”team from Institute of Technology, NIRMA University, Ahmedabad bagged the second position, receiving Rs. 75,000 and Runner up Trophy; and ”TEAM EMINENCE” from MKSSS’S CUMMINS College of Engineering for Woman, Pune ranked third in the competition with prize money of Rs 50,000 and Trophy; also they have received the Most Popular Team award. An appreciation prize of Rs 10,000 along with certificates was given to the selected 15 teams. Statistical modeling could help us understand cosmic acceleration But a few recent studies have found the possible existence of cosmological anisotropy: specifically, that the universe’s expansion is accelerating at a faster rate in one direction than another. In the most recent study, scientists have analyzed data from 557 Type 1a supernovae and found, in agreement with some previous studies, that the universe’s expansion seems to be accelerating faster in the direction of a small part of the northern galactic hemisphere.The researchers, Rong-Gen Cai and Zhong-Liang Tuo from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing, have posted their study at arXiv.org. A valuable tool for cosmologists, Type 1a supernovae serve as “standard candles” due to their consistent peak luminosity, allowing researchers to measure their distance with high accuracy. Observations of these supernovae famously revealed in 1998 that the universe is not only expanding, but is doing so at an accelerating rate. And now, some observations of Type 1a supernovae at different locations in the sky hint that the acceleration is not uniform in all directions.In their analysis, Cai and Tuo looked at the deceleration parameter, q0, to quantify the anisotropy level of the northern galactic and southern galactic hemispheres. As the scientists explain in their study, the direction with the smaller value of q0 is expanding faster than the direction with the larger value. The researchers analyzed the data using both a dynamical dark energy model and a standard model without dark energy, and found that both models revealed similar results: an anisotropy deviation of 0.76 and 0.79, respectively, and a preferred direction of (309°, 21°) and (314°, 28°), respectively. As noted by the Physics arXiv Blog, this direction of greatest acceleration is in the faint constellation of Vulpecula in the northern hemisphere.But as Cai and Tuo note in their study, the case is far from closed. In contrast with the current results, some previous analyses of Type 1a supernovae data have not found any statistically significant evidence for anisotropies. And many other data – such as that for the cosmic microwave background radiation, galaxy statistics, and dark matter haloes – strongly support the assumption of homogeneity and isotropy on the cosmic scale. Yet considering that the cosmological principle is one of the pillars of modern cosmology whose fundamental importance is difficult to exaggerate, threats to its credibility won’t be taken lightly. If the cosmological principle turns out to be wrong, it would dramatically change the way we look at the world. BALURGHAT: Trinamool Congress MP and youth wing president Abhishek Banerjee has appealed to the public to uproot BJP from the soil of Bengal in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in 2019.Addressing a rally at Dishari Ground here in Balurghat, Banerjee said: “In the Left regime, we heard the names like Hat Kata Dilip, Kan Kata Dilip (nicknames of popular Left-backed goons during the party’s rule in Bengal). Now, the people of Bengal are hearing the name of BJP’s Dilip Ghosh, who is already popular for his abusive languages. The saffron brigade has no control over him. The concepts of career and hobby are inextricably linked with the blessed phenomenon of leisure which in its own steed emerged from the amazing phenomenon of Surplus. As the traditional agriculturist society matured and achieved enough surpluses – it provided its members latitude for leisure which generated the cultural landscape of art and crafts. With enough surplus people could now have hobbies where they enjoyed certain activities primarily for pleasure. Many of these hobbies were quickly absorbed by the society as necessities and became full fledged careers in themselves such as carpentry, metallurgy, weaving etc and from this point onward began a most interesting interplay between technology, economy, career and hobbies with every age having its representative careers and so much so its representative hobbies. This strategic combination resulted in an extensive mobility between professions -the guild system collapsed and a festival of hobbies such as theatre, circus ensued which quickly became established professions. “The information technology revolution further accelerated the pace of this transition and provided people enough technological competence and ultimate anonymity to transmute their hobbies into actual careers. People now have the privilege to learn all the new career skills which the technological growth required and also all the new hobbies which the technological growth provided,” explains Alexshendra Venus Bakshi, eminent author, novelist and poet. She further adds, that today hobbies have once again claimed an economic coefficient. The present economy provides enough surplus and technological latitude for a variety of hobbies to be easily converted into well defined careers. An illustrative example would be that of the hobby of photography. The hobby of photography has recently achieved the technological competence to be easily maintainable. Today one can make the hobby of photography as one’s career with relative ease. It can thus now be comfortably said that the stereotyped division between career and hobby has to a great extent permeated in present age. The technological growth has also helped ancient hobbies to transit in active careers. Let us take the example of an ancient hobby of wood carving. In today’s age of e-commerce, one who has a hobby of wood carving can easily have a market for her product and make her hobby a developed career. One may also consider the ancient hobby of playing a musical instrument such as flute. Today a good skill at playing a musical instrument can easily provide a career in the film and music industry through the social media itself. “The gradient of respect which is associated with the term career, is now slowly been achieved by the term hobby as well. The intrinsic emotional perspective difference between a career in the armed forces of the country and making a hobby a career in the music industry is still operative and it shall take some more time before this difference is dissolved but the stereotype of career as entirely different from the hobby has been no doubt, much compromised,” said Alexshendra Venus Bakshi. It shall also not be wrong to state that what one does passionately- one does perfectly and so if hobby becomes a career, the productivity level would truly be amazing. In not to distant a future- one can say that we will find enough technological and economic competence that we will discover the passion of the child and then make that passion a career for her rather than forcing her to follow something which is away from her interest and that shall be in my opinion- the true actualisation of human dignity.
Kolkata: Police personnel were reportedly harassed and beaten by some local businessmen in Durgapur on Monday morning.Some vehicle drivers alleged that police personnel were involved in extortion. According to sources, on Monday morning, an Assistant Sub-Inspector along with a few civic volunteers were allegedly extorting money from vehicle drivers on the National Highway 2 near DVC Mor. While all the drivers reportedly met police personnel’s demand, one of the drivers left the spot without giving money to the cops. This angered police personnel. Following this, police gave him a chase. At Benachiti Bazar area, the police vehicle intercepted his vehicle and blocked its way. The accused Assistant Sub-Inspector allegedly held him by his caller and dragged him out of the vehicle and later he was beaten up. Situation took an ugly turn after local businessmen surrounded the police personnel. When police personnel asked them to leave, a few of the businesspersons heckled the police officer. Durgapur A zone police out-post was informed about the situation. Upon receiving the information, police went to the spot and rescued the assaulted police personnel. Raut was taken to Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital. According to sources, an inquiry has been ordered in the case. Another case for allegedly assaulting on duty police personnel may be lodged against local residents.
